Projects
At Candy Can, we lead global initiatives that empower communities through technology, education, and creative problem-solving. From teaching seniors how to navigate the digital world to bringing STEM education to under-resourced schools, each project reflects our mission to make innovation accessible to all one connection at a time.

Global Senior Connect | Washington, U.S.
As part of our international Global Senior Connect initiative, the Washington State branch of Candy Can partnered with Solista Senior Home to empower elders through technology. Our team of youth volunteers visited residents to provide personalized, hands-on support with their devices, helping with everything from sending emails and video calling loved ones to understanding app features and staying safe online.
This program not only bridged the digital divide for seniors but also fostered meaningful intergenerational connections, creating a space of learning, laughter, and community. We’re proud to make tech more accessible one conversation at a time 💙.

Beyond Borders Math Initiative | Sierra Leone, Africa
Our Beyond Borders Math Initiative is dedicated to expanding access to quality STEM education for girls around the world. In partnership with United for Development Sierra Leone, an all-girls school in Sierra Leone, we are providing interactive, engaging math lessons to empower young students with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
Through virtual sessions led by youth mentors, we’re helping bridge the educational gap one equation at a time. So far, we’ve raised $500 through the generosity of Jane Street and the Advantage Testing Foundation to support the school with essential math supplies, electricity, and WiFi, helping create a stronger learning environment for these incredible students.
Together, we’re proving that learning knows no borders.

GirlSphere Program
Candy Can, in partnership with the nonprofits GirlSphere and Codepreneuer, brings together girls ages 11–16 from around the world for an 8-week online cultural exchange powered by STEM in our GirlSphere Program. Near-peer mentors lead small, interactive sessions, coding and robotics explorations, design thinking, and team projects, while guiding participants in cross-cultural communication and leadership. Our most recent fall cohort welcomed more than 200 participants worldwide.
This program doesn’t just build STEM skills; it builds confidence, friendship, and global understanding. With one weekend session per week, basic English, and lots of curiosity (no prior STEM experience required), girls connect across borders to learn, create, and cheer each other on. We’re proud to make tech, and the world, feel more welcoming, one cohort at a time.

TechGirls Summer Camp - 8.11.2025 to 8.13.2025
This August, Candy Can hosted our first-ever TechGirls Summer Camp, a 3-day hands-on program designed to empower girls in grades 5–7 to become creators of technology. Over the course of the camp, participants learned to design, build, and publish their very own apps, gaining not only technical skills but also the confidence to see themselves as innovators.
The camp concluded with an exciting AI capstone project, where students applied their new coding knowledge to real-world challenges. Participants explored how technology can solve meaningful problems, sparking creativity and collaboration along the way.
More than just a coding workshop, TechGirls Summer Camp fostered a supportive community of young girls eager to explore STEM, laying the foundation for the next generation of tech leaders!

Rule Breakers Movie Night - 9.20.2025
We were proud to host this girls’ STEM event and welcome the 2024 World Champion FTC Team 21229, Quality Control, who shared robotics insights and delivered an incredible live robot demo. Special thanks to Coding Minds for sponsoring the evening and providing the venue, and to the all-girls FTC Team 23206, Automaducks, for candidly sharing their experiences as girls in robotics, stories that truly inspired the next generation.
The evening brought together 100+ attendees for:
-
Robotics introductions from Quality Control
-
A screening of Rule Breakers, the inspiring true story of Afghanistan’s first all-girls robotics team
-
A powerful presentation and Q&A with the Automaducks
-
A high-energy live robot demo to close the night
With snacks, goody bags, and concrete support for new teams -- including $100 sponsorships and a fully registered, paid all-girls FLL team currently seeking members -- the night was all about sparking courage and curiosity.
A huge thank-you to our volunteers for seamless setup and cleanup. To every attendee: we hope this event encouraged you to be brave, take that first step, and see yourself in STEM.
